Web standards are an integral part of the Web, but do we really need them? Right now, many web browsers are standards compliant, but HTML editors and authoring tools are not. What's the point of standards compliant browsers if the editing tools write non-standard code?

There are many standards that web designers and developers should be aware of, but the two most important to our work are:

• HTML—The current standard is HTML5 (working draft)
• CSS—The current standard is CSS3
