Do you edit your blog posts? Not all sites do
 |
I received a highly critical email a few weeks ago from someone upset that I'd missed a typo in one of my documents. Because of that one typo I was told that my site had no credibility and the implication was that I'm simply stupid because I can't/don't use a spell check program. This email was surprising to me because a) I edit all my blog posts - most of them I write in an offline editor and b) my ratio of error-free posts to incorrect is very high, probably because of a.
Then I saw this article on Dan Nation's Web Trends blog: On the Web, Content Is King And Quality Is a Fool. He points out that typos and poor formatting and grammar are becoming more and more common, even on websites that should know better like Yahoo! and the Washington Post.
What do you think? Is there still room for quality on Web pages? What about blogs? Is it more important to be first or to be error free? And before you answer, think about it this way - do you stop reading sites like the Washington Post because of the errors?
