A common mistake that novice web designers make is over compression of their images. This can result in artifacts and banding that make the images look bad. Learn about some of the causes of over compression and how you can avoid it without sacrificing the quality of your images.

I often have trouble with over compression on About.com articles, because About.com automatically compresses images I upload—even if I've already compressed them. This is common on many About.com sites.
