Drawing on HTML 5 Canvas is Limited to 2-Dimensions, For Now

One of the things you have to do to draw on the HTML 5 canvas is define a context. And the only context available right now is 2d. Which begs the question is there a 3d context? The real answer is, "not yet". But there will be eventually.

What's cool is that there are already lots of sites that do pseudo-3D in HTML 5 canvas. Some interesting ones I've seen include:

  • 3D Wireframe Landscape — It looks more like a really choppy ocean to me
  • 3D Modeling — look at and rotate a ship, a helicopter, and a stegosaurus (my favorite!)
  • 3D Walker — a 3d FPS, but with nothing to shoot (that I saw)
  • Google Images Gift Box — Now you can give your friends the gift of Google and it really does search Google images
  • jParallax Demos — the first demo doesn't look 3d until you mouse over it, and then it's really cool

What canvas demos have you seen and liked? Share in the comments.
