Editor Updates
 |
One thing I find interesting about web editors is how seldom many are updated. Why do you think that is? It might be that because HTML and CSS haven't had major updates from the
W3C so why would an HTML editor need an update? For example,
KompoZer was created to take over updating when
Nvu stopped getting updated. But KompoZer hasn't had an update since 2007. I've been waiting for
Atlas to come out of beta for over a year now, and the most recent post is from October 6th. However, there is no year — and I believe that was from 2009. But then programs like
Adobe Dreamweaver and
Expression Web come out every year, almost like clockwork.
I get worried when an editor I like hasn't been updated. Even if it already seems perfect. That might seem strange, but I've had programs stop working on more advanced versions of operating systems, and if the developer is no longer working on my favorite editor then I might lose access to it in the future. What do you think? Does it matter if an editor hasn't been updated in a while?
