HTML5 Design Gallery - About.com
 |

Now it may seem strange or biased that I’m highlighting the homepage of About.com this week, but there are some things you can learn from it. Plus, it’s Thanksgiving tomorrow here in the United States, and I couldn’t resist the turkey photo. But never mind the food, as a designer you want to be looking at the HTML—it uses HTML5 with
sectioning elements (there are a few untitled sections) with
DIV tags around them to help older browsers. But what I like best is how it resizes depending upon the browser width, you can see that in the right side of the image—a screen shot on an iPod (
See full-size image). Note, this site does not use
media queries, it uses JavaScript which can result in some strange designs on mobile devices in landscape mode, but it still is a great example of a design that accomodates its users.
