I once worked with a woman who would check her site's metrics every hour. She ran an online store, and had campaigns that were starting and ending all the time. But hourly checks seems almost obsessive to me. However, her site consistently did well, so I can't fault her for that. For me it typically depends upon the site, but most sites I view metrics or stats at least once a week. More than that, and I start getting too focused on the numbers, and less than that and I lose track of what's important.
