If you are committed to delivering fast loading websites, you know that whitespace in CSS and HTML can slow things down. But it can be difficult to do it by hand. CleanCSS uses a version of CSSTidy to remove extraneous characters and optimize your CSS. When I tried it out, it didn't handle browser extension properties well, but for style sheets that didn't use those techniques it was very helpful in reducing the file sizes.
