While virtualization has certainly become part of a common first step to reduce Capex and increase agility, it isn’t the final destination of a complete data center transformation. As we are aware, virtualization can also create many challenges such as virtual machine sprawl, additional storage capacity, increased systems management requirements, new IT management processes, and specialized technical skills. Jason Noel will go on further to discuss how these challenges will be even more acute as virtualization continues to progress into other areas such as desktops, storage and the network. Virtualization is undoubtedly a foundational technology to building the cloud, but it takes a whole lot more to exploit the potential benefits than just virtualization. Virtual workloads will need to be easily and securely moved between in-house systems and external cloud-based systems.
