Most web templates are created from Adobe Photoshop PSD files, yet many do not own this program due to its steep price tag. Photo shop is the choice of many design companies owing to its powerful abilities in editing and creating raster images. And since Photo shop has become the standard in the graphics design industry, most graphic artists create their work using it, whether the design is for print or the web.
If you have bought a web template and wish to modify some of its parts and you do not have Photo shop, you can download a trial version and use it for a fixed time. Often, it is not required to purchase the expensive program when only minor edits are needed - but make sure to make all of the changes before the trial period expires. Other bitmap editing applications offer the ability to open PSD files. However, many fail to display images very accurately, especially complex ones.
Some of the interactive elements of web pages, such as image rollovers and image maps can be done with Adobe ImageReady, which essentially comes bundled with Photoshop. Image rollovers and image maps are created by placing slices over of pre-defined areas of an image. When exported, it can either take you to a defined URL, swap an image when a mouse moves over it, or both. If you need to modify some elements that contain these interactive behaviors, you need to be acquainted with ImageReady. |
